RSV (respiratory syncytial virus) is a common respiratory virus that infects the lungs and breathing passages. People most frequently associate RSV with the risk it brings to young children, but not many know the high risk it poses for older adults.

RSV is the second leading cause of significant respiratory tract illnesses in adults. RSV causes about 177,000 hospitalizations and 14,000 deaths in the US annually in those over the age of 65.
